The Speakeasy at the Spa in Porter, Indiana, has an intriguing past! It was originally a 1920s speakeasy that was frequented by none other than Al Capone. During Prohibition, secret passcodes were used to enter, and the establishment even had a hidden watchtower to keep an eye out for the police.
One of the most fascinating aspects was how they smuggled alcohol—using the Little Calumet River, which runs behind the building, to discreetly deliver liquor into the basement. Today, the Speakeasy has been revived with its historic charm intact, featuring tin ceilings, a 90-year-old horseshoe bar from a Chicago saloon, and a vintage Seaburg jukebox.
